How much will this cost?
The only cost to you is the Medifast meals. All coaching and support is free! When you are on full Take Shape program, you will eat 5 Medifast meals a day and it comes out to about $10 a day. Your 6th meal is a lean protein and low-glycemic vegetables that you get and prepare yourself–view my list of Medifast lean and green main dish recipes.
What is Take Shape For Life (TSFL)? How does it work?
Take Shape for Life is a system of coaches and health professionals devoted to helping you reach your optimal weight and health. Take shape has partnered with Medifast to provide a easy, quick and healthy way to lose weight.
You’ll choose five Medifast Meals each day, one every 2-3 hours. Because you eat frequently, you’re never hungry, and your metabolism stays revved. Many Medifast Meals are portable, so you can fit itinto even the busiest lifestyle.
You also get one lean and green meal to eat at the time that works best for you. For the Lean, you’ll have 5-7 ounces of lean protein; the Green is three servings of low-glycemic vegetables. Depending on your source of protein, you’ll get some healthy fat, too, and that will help keep you full and satisfied.
While Medifast Meals are delicious and nutritionally sound, don’t think that you’ll be committed to meal replacements forever. The 5 & 1 Plan is just the first phase of our program. In the Transition phase, you’ll begin to add more fruits, vegetables, and protein. And on Maintenance, you’ll learn how to eat the healthy food you love without gaining weight.
What if I don’t like the taste of the products?
I have found that I really did not like the taste of the products all that much the first two days. My body was so used to foods that were full of salt and sugar, that the Medifast meals did not seem all that tasty. As my body adjusted, the meals got more delicious and I now love most of the meals. Food in general is more flavorful now that I can actually taste it. There is a huge variety of meals from bars and shakes to soups and mac n cheese. (and don’t forget the brownies)
I have a hard time sticking with things. How am I supported?
The first three days you are on program, your health coach will call you every day and check in with you. Your coach will find ways to help and support you through the first few initial difficult days and will give you tips and suggestions. After that, your coach will check in with you weekly, more if needed, to see how you are feeling and answer any questions. You will also have a weekly celebration day where you tell your coach how much weight you have lost that week.
Take Shape also has nurses and doctors you can call if you have any medical questions. Another helpful tool are the webinars that they have. They are inspirational and let you know that there are lots of people going through the same thing as you.
As am important part of the program, you will need to read Dr A’s Habits of Health and the accompanying workbook, Living a Longer Healthier Life. These books will help you see how to change your lifestyle so that you don’t go back to old unhealthy ways.
Health and diet programs are a dime a dozen. What makes TSFL different?
Take Shape for Life is not a diet. It is a lifestyle change. It is not a way of eating until you lose enough weight and then go back to your old habits. Take Shape educates you on healthy eating and follows through weight loss to maintaining your new healthy weight.
Do I really need a coach? Or, can I order the food and do it on my own?
You can order Medifast food on your own, but with no one to coach you and keep you accountable and help you learn healthy habits, you will simply gain back any weight that was lost when you go back to your old ways of eating.
How do I incorporate TSFL meals into family meals and my family lifestyle?
Family dinners together are important in our household. Since I am a busy mom of three, I eat my 5 Medifast meals while I am on the go, out grocery shopping of taking kids to and from practices and school. We all eat regular food and sit down for dinner time together. Dinners for us are a lean meat and vegetables and fruit and I will make a carbohydrate for the kids like brown rice or whole wheat pasta. I spend less time cooking now than I did before Take Shape. Now we eat cleaner simpler foods in their natural form–view my list of Medifast lean and green main dish recipes.
Will I need to exercise?
This is the nice thing about the program. You will not need to exercise for the first several weeks. As you lose weight and are feeling better you can add walking or a light type of exercise. Once you reach you optimal weight, the book Dr. A’s Habits of Health will help you add exercise into your daily lifestyle by doing simple things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
Also, once you are exercising, please check out my page of recommended products. I’ve listed supplements, at-home exercise equipment, water bottles, and more.
I don’t feel like I have any free time. How much time does this take?
I feel like I have even more time now than I am doing Take Shape. I do not think about food or my next meal and they are already planned out. I spend less time cooking dinners since the dinners we eat now are simple and mostly still in their natural form. A little baking, steaming or grilling and you have dinner!
